Community Money
One in 5 people in the UK (more than 8 million adults) have no access to money advice, banking or (affordable) credit. This has a huge impact on individuals, businesses and communities.
The Community Lottery is a simple way to address poverty just around the corner - as 80% of the proceeds go back to the community as cash prizes and capital for a micro loan and grant fund.
Community Money is a London based MFI (microfinance institution) which is the first in the UK to be registered as a Community Interest Company (CIC). Community Money invests in financially excluded individuals, businesses and community groups by providing affordable, accessible and fair loans and community grants and other financial services, such as advice.
It will do this through a loan and grant fund (largely with proceeds from the Community Lottery) and through financial inclusion programmes delivered in partnership with local authorities, housing providers and other agencies.
Community Money, in partnership with Islington People's Rights, a local advice agency, offers workshops on financial exclusion, basic financial skills, opening a bank account and starting a small business.
Community Lottery is a registered community lottery based in Islington.
