POWER International is a UK non-governmental organization that aims to help persons with disabilities in the developing world.

We create changes and opportunities in society so they can have equal human rights and maximize their own potential as they themselves would wish.

We are a small and effective organization - with a big reach. Our projects support disabled people’s organizations, creating skills for their members to carry out activities, find information, seek help, and in turn run their own projects.

For most people with disabilities in developing countries, poverty is a way of life.  One such person affects the whole family and the community.

POWER started in 1995, in order to care for those disabled by landmines , an appalling international human tragedy - there are millions of landmines still in the ground in developing countries.  Current estimates are that there are in excess of 300,000 amputees in the developing world, and that the number increases daily.

The effects of the cycle of poverty and disability are difficult to measure - but POWER makes it a priority to identify persons with disabilities, and help them access help and make choices.

People in rural areas affected by landmines, still farm the land, tend livestock, fetch water, and gather firewood - daily risking their lives. Very often they are women and children.

In Mozambique and Zambia - POWER supports and strengthens disabled people's organisations, as well as funding projects for basic needs. In Laos - we have complementary projects - Prosthetics and Orthotics (artificial limbs and limb supports) - and developing the Lao Disabled People's Association, the only organisation of and for disabled people in Laos.
